“The Memory of Water”, by Shelagh Stephenson, directed and dramatized by Nina Kleflin, speaks of the trauma that remains in a person forever, that destroys and builds them at the same time. Water, that substance that is pure, transparent, seemingly untainted, serves as a paradigm for the state of the human soul, which is constantly flowing, renews itself, but still remembers. It remembers and suffers. Thus, water also remembers everything that has passed through it. The strong women of our story deal with these challenges of life bravely and authentically. We follow three daughters who, even in adulthood, cannot fully resolve their truly complicated relationship with their mother, and it is precisely this relationship that has fundamentally shaped them. They love and hate her at the same time, envy and resent her, reject their resemblance to their mother, and at the same time cannot escape her. Their lives are dominantly shaped by their relationship with their mother. In addition, the omnipresent figure of the father hovers over these female characters, who symbolizes all authorities, social and religious, in a negative way. Shelagh Stephenson has written a very profound, modern play that speaks to the many complexes we carry as individuals in a second layer. But she has done so gently, through humor, through skillfully written, witty dialogue that is a pleasure to listen to from the stage.
The cast consists of: Jelena Kordić Kuret, Nikolina Marić, Ana Franjčević, Mirela Mijačank Kordić, Ivo Krešić and Robert Pehar. The set and lighting design is by Osman Arslanagić, the costume design is by Vanja Ciraj Džudža, and the music is by Ines Prajo.
