On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, writer, publicist, and member of the Society of Croatian Writers of Herceg Bosna, Drago Šaravanja, passed away.
Drago Šaravanja was born in Lipno near Ljubuški on January 17, 1940. He attended elementary school in Lipno and high school at the Jesuit Seminary in Dubrovnik.
At the age of nineteen, he went to Italy, and then to Australia, where he trained as an aeronautical mechanical engineer (Aircraft Mechanical Engineer). He worked in this job until his retirement. He also completed his studies in Croatian language and literature at Macquarie University in Sydney. For his exceptional success, he was awarded lifetime membership in the Golden Key National Honour Society, in recognition of outstanding academic success and excellence. He returned to Croatia in 2001.
In his literary and journalistic work, Šaravanja was permanently preoccupied with the relationship between homeland and emigration, the experience of departure and return, and the question of belonging. He collaborated in numerous Croatian publications.
His work has been translated into English, and is represented in several anthologies. He is the winner of the "Fra Lucijan Kordić" and "Passion Heritage" awards.

The funeral will be held at Mirogoj on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 11:40 a.m.
