"FROM THE LENS TO LITERATURE: MOSTAR SUMMER THROUGH TWO EXPRESSIONS"
As part of the "Mostar Summer 2025" event, two events were held on July 10, 2025: an exhibition
photo "Through the lens of Vejsil Čurčić" organized by the Museum of Herzegovina and promotion of the book
"Bridge on the Drina" by Andrej Nikolaidis organized by the Mostar National Library.
The exhibition "Through the Lens of Vejsil Čurčić" illustrated the work of this Bosnian and Herzegovinian polymath through
scenes captured in the cameras used by Čurčić. The exhibition showed his activity
primarily in the fields of archeology and ethnography, but also in other scientific fields, and several scenes from
Mostar from the first half of the 20th century.
The Director of the Museum of Herzegovina, Mr. Asim Krhan, pointed out: "We as the audience are meeting for the first time
with this type of material, which certainly gives it a special value. Vejsil Čurčić was our first educated
an archaeologist, a scientist of the old school of explorers, a man who studied and completed archeology and history
art in Vienna. These photographs particularly include Herzegovina, which is confirmed as
an area with many cultural and historical sights."
One of the authors of the exhibition, Jesenko Hadžihasanović, emphasizes how Vejsil Čurčić, during his long career,
throughout his career he dealt with numerous topics from archeology, and became a pioneer in the use of cameras in his work.
"He initiated conservation and restoration work on numerous medieval cities: from
Tešnja do kula in Mostar. Even after his retirement, Čurčić continued to be active in the Zemaljsko
the museum during turbulent times when he and his colleagues saved numerous museum objects in various ways
exhibits such as the Sarajevo Haggadah. All of this further reflects the significance of this exhibition," he added.
Hadzihasanovic.
The exhibition was opened by Vejsil Čurčić's grandson, Darimir Čurčić.
