The Pavarotti Music Center (PMC) was opened in a former primary school building in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on December 21, 1997 at the initiative of War Child UK, generously supported by Mr. Pavarotti, Brian Eno, members of U2 and other artists, to create a music center in post-war BiH in order to help the people of BiH, especially the youth.
The primary goals of PMC in post-war BiH were:
Launching educational and creative projects-workshops for children and young people of Mostar and the region, regardless of their national or religious affiliation, as an additional way of educating young people with the introduction of new work methods, and the use of music and art as the fastest and most acceptable way to include all parts of the community and the creation of a safe place and a friendly atmosphere for children and young people where, together with professional educators, they can express their creativity, talent and abilities presenting clinical music therapy as a new approach to traumatized children and young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in Mostar (statistics show that Mostar had the largest number of war-traumatized children and youth in the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina), which was realized by establishing the first department of music therapy in PMC.
The current goals of the PMC are as follows:
To offer different educational and creative activities for children and young people adapted to the age of the participants, their abilities, using methods accepted by the education reform in BiH, with elements of creative therapy, to offer different artistic programs to the people of Mostar and the region with the aim of developing the cultural life of the local community, organizing various lectures and seminars, offering space and equipment of the PMC to other organizations, institutions and individuals to develop and establish relations and cooperation with other cultural, youth, educational and social organizations at the local and international level.
