Announcement: Andrea Šunjić-Bernadić's exhibition "The Artist is Not Present" will be held in
Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at the Queen Katarina Kosača Gallery in the Croatian House of Herceg
Stjepan Kosača starting at 8 pm.

“Andrea’s fourth solo exhibition, after a long period of silence, connects different
media and techniques, questioning the boundaries of art in order to better express thoughts and
feelings. She presents her personal material such as reflections from diaries that were written in
period from 2017 to 2025. These written traces are actually a picture of what we have been through
The artist goes through this phase of life. From beautiful moments in life to less beautiful episodes.
– as well as many silently written questions, addressed to herself. Some notes at first glance
seem trivial, like the routine obligations that shape the day. But all these lines from
diaries fill the walls of the gallery. Enlarged and framed, they symbolize the spirit
everyday life and as such become silent traces and evidence of Andrea's absence. She
presents itself with "works" that are not made for the audience. It exposes itself by presenting its
intimacy and shouts: "This is me, confused, torn between work and motherhood, in a creative
crisis and in a state of anxiety". She writes to herself as a reminder that she has not disappeared, that she is still here. And
that's why it doesn't show beautiful, eye-catching images. It brings what it has, what is inside,
raw, without aesthetic appeal, not what the world expects and sees on the surface.
Artist Andrea Šunjić-Bernadić leaves open space to visitors as an invitation to
a peaceful encounter with oneself and a deeper questioning and understanding of artists who are not
present." (Marjana Filipović)
