As part of the International Cultural Event "Mostar Summer 2026", two events were successfully held tonight, bringing together lovers of tradition and literature.
Nurturing and promoting cultural heritage, the "Rug Weaving" workshop, which was held at the premises of the Yunus Emre Institute Mostar, brought together lovers of traditional crafts and gave them the opportunity to learn about this valuable crafting technique through practical work.
"At the Yunus Emre Institute Mostar, as part of the 'Mostar Summer' event, a carpet weaving workshop was successfully held - the second workshop of this kind organized at our Institute this year. Under the expert guidance of educators Fikreta Zolj and Azra Čamo, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the basics of this valuable traditional craft, its rich cultural heritage and production techniques. We thank the participants for their interest and active participation. We look forward to new meetings and future workshops that will continue to promote traditional arts and cultural heritage," emphasized Hilal Karapolat, head of the Yunus Emre Institute branch in Mostar.
In the premises of the Mostar National Library, the promotion of the novel "Cinnamon Letters, Diamond Creatures" by Faruk Šehić was held, and the author was interviewed by writer Elvedin Nezirović.
"The novel was published two years ago. I wrote it for quite a long time. The plot is set in a city that was destroyed and has a fictional name. The characters in the novel do not even bear our names because it is not an allusion to our war and the post-war period, although in essence it is about people who survived one or more wars and live in that destroyed city. Of course, I incorporated my own war experiences into the novel as a former soldier of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as experiences of life in destroyed cities. Some parts of the book are literally based on what I saw in Mostar and its destroyed parts after the war. There is a lot of science fiction in the novel, and part of the plot is set in space. It is a complex and, in my opinion, extensive work. The novel has several characters, and two are, of course, at the center of the story and their connection in a world that is fictional, but can be associated with our past. It is a novel about love between two people, about togetherness and that two or a group of people can create their own miniature state and survive everything," he explained. is the author of the book Faruk Šehić and stressed that he is looking forward to visiting Mostar and participating in the "Mostar Summer".
"Most cultural events in our country are mainly concentrated in Sarajevo, which is why performing in Mostar is particularly important to me. Mostar is a large city with a rich culture and tradition, and it is always a pleasure for me to come here, meet dear people, friends and fellow writers, many of whom were present tonight. It is truly a great pleasure for me to be part of the 'Mostar Summer' program," concluded Šehić.
Tomorrow (Friday, July 17), the audience can expect the monodrama "Everything is Up to Us" as part of the "Mostar Summer" program, an original project by Emir Hadžihafizbegović, which will be performed on the Hamama plateau in the Old Town starting at 9 p.m.
