The Travnik branch of Matica Hrvatska is establishing the "Ivo Andrić" literary award with the aim of
encouraging contemporary literary creation in the Croatian language and affirming new and already established
established authors.
Competition rules
1. Right to participate
All authors who write in Croatian (regardless of location) have the right to participate.

2. Literary forms and application requirements
Works can be submitted to the competition in one of the following categories:
• short story
or
• poetry
Short story:
• font: Times New Roman, size 12
• line spacing: 1.5 or 2
• range: approximately 9,000 – 12,000 characters with spaces (or 7,500 – 10,000 without spaces)
• The paper must not exceed 10,000 characters without spaces.
Poetry:
• three different songs must be submitted
• each song must be original and unpublished
Authors can only apply in one category.
3. Method of submitting works
Papers should be submitted in electronic form (WORD document) to the e-mail address:

Each work will be marked with a code and forwarded as such to the committee.
4. Selection and publication of papers
An expert committee will select the best works to be included in a joint book.
The book will be published by the Travnik branch of Matica Hrvatska next year. Organizer
reserves the right to publish selected works without additional compensation to the authors.
5. Expert Committee
The decision on the awards and selection of works is made by an expert committee composed of prominent
individuals.
6. Awards
It is awarded:
• cash prize of 1000 KM
• bust of Ivo Andrić
• plaque
7. Award ceremony
The awards will be presented in October, as part of the cultural event Andrić's Days in
Travnik.
8. Application deadline
Works are submitted in the period:
from May 1 to August 1, 2026.
9. General provisions
• submitted works must be original and unpublished
• by submitting the work, the author accepts the terms of the competition
• the organizer reserves the right to publish selected works in printed and digital editions
10. Use of artificial intelligence
Each work will be checked for the use of artificial intelligence. Works that are found to
were created with the help of artificial intelligence will be disqualified.
11. Final note
The competition aims not only to reward excellence, but also to encourage the development of the literary scene and
preservation and promotion of the Croatian language and culture. Participation in the competition is an opportunity
authors to become part of the contemporary literary circle and permanently record their work in a common
publication.
